Sometimes when days go so horribly wrong,
you have to completely embrace them or you will lose your mind.
Case in point: My day trip to Naples.
After being in Rome for 3 months I was ready for a new italian adventure.
So on a whim I decided upon Naples.
Typically I am a big advocate of “winging it.”
No Tripadvisor, guidebooks, no recommendations from friends.
Just me walking off a train and seeing what I find.
After this trip however… I may have to rethink that.
Maybe sometimes it really is best to learn a little about where you are going,
Because when you don’t,
you end up having to pay for an earlier train ticket back,
walking down dangerous streets,
and microwaved pizza.
Naples has a certain “deteriorated charm” that I found beautiful to photograph,
but it’s one place I wouldn’t mind not going back to for awhile.
Proof that every day in Italy is not always “la dolce vita.”

PS: Anyone have any amazing stories of Napoli? I would love to see it redeem itself!
Oops good advice……us living down in South Africa we are very aware of checking out places first as many areas are not suitable.
Good advice! I learned my lesson 🙂 Also, South Africa– wonderful! It’s on my list.
It is truly a beautiful country and we live on the tip in Cape Town very privileged
Great photos! Sorry you had a less than rewarding experience.
Thanks for reading! Me too, but we can’t love everywhere we go, can we?
I’ve heard the same things about Naples… 😦
Yeah! I try not to listen to opinions because we all like what we like but… I should have listened! 🙂
The port of Naples does give you access to Capri 🙂 http://picturestand.wordpress.com/2013/10/27/italia/
I’ve also learned with time that a bit of research before going anywhere goes a long way… Good luck next time! 🙂
Well said.
Sorry to hear that. And unfortunately, I don’t have a good story from Napoli either. When my class and I docked in Napoli after a day in Capri, our chaperone ushered us right onto the bus and freaked out when we had to stay there half an hour longer than planned. They kept screaming it was dangerous and not to go wandering around.
