Cinque Terre in the Early Morning

5am, Woken up.

“We’re going to Cinque Terre!”

Hopped in the shower and packed a small bag, left the house just 4 minutes after we should have.

I never knew the true meaning of 4 minutes until that morning.

Because we were 4 minutes late, we missed the bus that would take us to the train station

where the train would be leaving

in just 18 minutes.

Instead, we had to walk to the train station which took 15 minutes,

buy the tickets which would not accept our money,

and then jump onto the train with 1 minute to spare, which was jam-packed with people.

Sigh of relief…”We made it!!!”

Until I remembered, still no tickets– so he jumped off the train and disappeared leaving me with the words “wait here.”

Doors closed, train pulled away. Empty phone, no purse.

I looked out the window trying to find a boy soon disappearing out of sight.

After 20 minutes of panic, “WHAT NOW?!”

the doors to the train car opened.

“I got the tickets.” Great news!

“…And lost 100 euro.”

Typical start to a romantic adventure.

That’s Italy for you!

“I was within and without. Simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.”

It’s so amazing! Unfortunately this day I was feeling more like a “drink wine and eat pasta with a view” kind of girl. Next time!

That is a crazy story, the kind of story you hope never happen but happens anyway.

Your pictures look great and Cinque Terre looks so different from when I visited. I think I was there during the week long holiday people usually takes during early spring to celebrate the end of winter so everything was closed except for a small restaurant.
